Categories: Party Game, Trivia Game, Guessing Game
How to Play:
- Number of Players:
- Ideally suited for groups of 3 or more.
- The more players, the more diverse the range of famous people are likely to be considered, making the guessing process more engaging.
What You’ll Need:
- A group of people with a good general knowledge of famous figures (actors, musicians, athletes, historical figures, etc.)
- (Optional) Timer (for adding a time limit to guess the person)
- (Optional) Pen and paper (for keeping track of guesses or clues)
- Gameplay:
Choose the “Thinker”:
- Decide how to select the player who will think of the famous person (volunteering, taking turns, spinning a bottle, etc.).
Pick a Mystery Person:
- The chosen player silently thinks of a famous person from any field (politics, science, arts, etc.).
Clue Time!
- The thinker starts by providing an initial clue about the mystery person. This clue can be anything descriptive but should not directly reveal the identity (e.g., “This person is known for their work in music”).
Ask Yes or No Questions:
- Based on the initial clue, other players take turns asking yes or no questions to gather more information and narrow down the possibilities.
- The thinker can only answer “yes” or “no” to these questions.
Refine the Guesses:
- As the questions and clues progress, players can take educated guesses about the mystery person’s identity.
Is it Who You Think?
- If a player feels confident, they can attempt to guess the name of the famous person.
Correct Guess or New Clue?
- If the guess is correct, the round ends, and a new player can be the thinker for the next round.
- If the guess is wrong, the thinker provides another clue, and the question-and-guessing process continues.
Optional Rules:
- Time Limit: Set a timer for each round to add an element of pressure and keep the game moving.
- Category Focus: If playing with a large group, consider choosing a specific category for famous people (e.g., musicians from the 80s, historical figures from a particular era) to make the guessing more manageable.
- Multiple Guesses: Allow players to make multiple guesses per round, with point deductions for incorrect guesses.
Estimated Playtime:
A single round of Guess the Person can last anywhere from a few minutes to a much longer time depending on the difficulty of the chosen person, the creativity of the clues, and the number of questions asked. A game with several rounds can last from 30 minutes to an hour or more
Make it Your Own:
- Themed Rounds: Choose a theme for your game, such as actors from a specific movie genre, famous scientists, or athletes from a particular sport.
- Act It Out: Instead of clues, the thinker can act out mannerisms or scenes associated with the famous person for others to guess.
- Two Truths and a Lie: The thinker can provide three statements about the mystery person – two true and one false – and others have to guess which one is the lie.
