A fast-paced board game where players race their pawns around a track, using slides and strategically sending opponents back to start with a playful apology – “Sorry!”

Description

Sorry! is a classic board game that has been a staple of family game nights for generations. Combining elements of strategy, chance, and a touch of sweet revenge, Sorry! keeps players engaged and cheering (or groaning!) throughout the game. Players move their pawns around a colorful board, aiming to get all four pawns safely to the home area first. Along the way, they can use slides to zoom ahead, strategically bump opponents back to the starting point with a playful “Sorry!”, and race to avoid getting sent back themselves.

How to Play:

  • Number of Players: 2-4 Players
  • What You’ll Need:
    • Sorry! board game
    • Pawns (4 per player, in different colors)
    • Dice (one die)
  • Gameplay:
    • Set Up the Board: Unfold the game board and place it on a flat surface. Each player chooses a color and takes the four corresponding pawns. Place them in the designated starting area according to the game board instructions.
    • Getting Started: Decide who goes first (youngest player first is common, or you can roll the dice to see who gets the highest number). On their turn, a player rolls the dice.
    • Moving Out: A pawn can only leave its starting area if the player rolls a 1 or a 2. A 1 moves the pawn one space out of the starting area, and a 2 allows the pawn to move completely out and onto the numbered track.
    • Moving Around the Board: Once a pawn is out, players roll the dice and move their chosen pawn the corresponding number of spaces around the track.
    • Landing on an Occupied Space: If a player lands on a space already occupied by another player’s pawn (of a different color), the pawn that was there gets bumped back to its starting area.
    • Slides – Taking a Shortcut: The board features shortcut slides that can launch pawns ahead several spaces. If you land on the base of a slide, you get to scoot your pawn up to the top space of the slide.
    • Saying Sorry!: When you bump an opponent’s pawn back to start, it’s customary to say “Sorry!” (Though they might not feel too sorry!)
    • Getting All Pawns Home: The ultimate goal is to get all four of your pawns into your designated home area (the colored spaces at the end of the track). Pawns can only enter the home area by rolling the exact number needed to land on the final space.
    • Winning the Game: The first player to get all four of their pawns safely into their home area wins the game!

Make it Your Own:

  • House Rules (Optional): Some families implement house rules, such as not allowing players to be bumped back to start on their first move around the board.
  • Themed Pawns: Use small figurines or toys as pawns to add a fun theme to the game.
  • Quick Play (Optional): For a shorter game, agree to have pawns only start needing a 1 to leave the starting area (instead of a 1 or 2).
